Community Outreach

HPD involves the public through most of its programs.  For instance, many nominations for State and National Register listings and for Historic Markers are initiated by the public. The public and local governments apply for grants. And, our tax tax credit and loan programs put us in direct contact with homeowners and business persons who are rehabilitating historic buildings to help ensure the economic vitality of historic neighborhoods and business districts.

SiteWatch trains citizen volunteers to monitor cultural sites. During Heritage Preservation Month, the CPRC and HPD reward preservation efforts statewide with Heritage Preservation Awards.  May also is the month when individuals, organizations, parks and communities stage events to highlight historic preservation and we illustrate a preservation theme by publishing a poster each year that is distributed to approximately 3,000 people.

Press releases highlighting HPD outreach and other activities are available through the link and newsletters are found below.
