State and National Register Historic Plaque Information
The Historic Preservation Division does not officially issue plaques for historic properties, but provides information for persons interested in obtaining plaques for properties listed in the State Register of Cultural Properties and/or the National Register of Historic Places. Download State and Federal historic plaque forms here.

The State Register of Cultural Properties is maintained by the Historic Preservation Division. The Cultural Properties Review Committee (CPRC) places historic and prehistoric properties on the State Register. The CPRC meets at least six times each year, and at most meetings lists properties in the State Register and forwards nominations to the National Register.

Nominations must be received at HPD 35 days in advance of the scheduled CPRC meeting to ensure timely staff review and consideration by the CPRC.

The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the Nation's historic places worthy of preservation. The Register is administered by the National Park Service under the Secretary of the Interior. HPD maintains a list of certified architectural historians, historians and architects who are qualified Architectural Historical Consultants. They are available for consultations, survey work and developing nominations for the State and National Registers.

The State Register of Cultural Properties can be downloaded in three categories. By County lets users browse the county of interest to see what is listed within its borders. By Name provides an alphabetized list of every nomination. Listed by Register Number provides a sequential list of New Mexico’s 1,922 Register listings in the order they were created beginning in 1966.
